Dr Ranjan Patnaik is the Director of DuPont Knowledge Center (DKC) at Hyderabad, India. DKC is an integrated R&D facility with about 300 scientists & engineers supporting a pipeline that spans across diverse segments ranging from agriculture, materials science, to industrial biotechnology. In this role, he is responsible for managing the strategic R&D vision, footprint, & roadmap for the organization in South Asia & ASEAN. Prior to his current position, he was head of the biotechnology division of Central Research & Development at DKC with global responsibilities to deliver products & processes across multiple growth platforms.Dr. Patnaik joined DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, in 2003 and has over 20 years of experience in the field of technology management with emphasis in industrial biotechnology. Prior to joining DuPont, he had diverse industrial leadership experience in both small and mid-sized start-up biotechnology ventures in North America. His areas of expertise include establishing and implementing novel bioprocesses for production of biochemical & biofuels, nutraceuticals, fermentation technology transfer, metabolic engineering, technology due diligence, intellectual property generation, open innovation, and managing interdisciplinary global teams. Dr. Patnaik has authored many peer reviewed articles and been a speaker at numerous international conferences & panels. He has served as a reviewer & consultant with many high-profile grant agencies & forums during his career. He is currently listed as a co-inventor in more than ten global patents and in numerous patent applications. He has edited a book titled Engineering Complex Phenotypes in Industrial Strains, published by John Wiley & Sons. He was nominated twice as a participant in the Frontiers of Engineering Symposium sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering, USA. He holds a bachelor’s and a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, India, and Texas A&M University (TAMU), College Station, USA, respectively.
