Dr. Nelson is a physician-scientist trained in pediatrics and molecular microbiology. His team develops desired feasible and scalable tools that draw on science and technology skill-sets to address fundamental challenges faced during infectious disease outbreaks. They chose cholera outbreaks as a model system because cholera is one of the fastest killing pathogens yet readily treatable with low-cost interventions. They hope success with cholera will readily have broader immediate impact.
