Dr. Preet K. Dhillon has a background in global cancer epidemiology and experience from several organizations in the US and India. She is a trained Epidemiologist who has worked on cancer and other NCD’s as a Senior Research Scientist and Associate Professor at the Public Health Foundation of India’s Centre for Chronic Conditions & Injuries and Centre for Environmental Health where she is involved in scientific research, management, teaching, mentorship and capacity building.

She has accumulated over 15 years of experience working in various international settings, including HMOs such as Kaiser Permanente, longitudinal cohorts such as the Physicians Health Study (Harvard School of Public Health), cancer registries in low-resource settings such as the Mumbai Cancer Registry, and large, government tertiary care centers such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. In collaborations with non-academic organizations such as the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi, she has engaged members of the community to effectively tackle the issues around cancer prevention and early detection in India. Other activities in cancer include helping convene stakeholder meetings on cancer prevention and control and capacity building for the media and scientists (National Cancer Institute, USA-led).

She is leading several studies related to breast cancer etiology, awareness, reviews, cancer screening correlates and quality of life. She is involved in NIH grants and is the PHFI co-lead for the India’s Global Burden of Disease Cancer Expert Group. She has evaluated imaging tools that can be used as an adjunct for oral cancer screening, has helped review mHealth technologies in low- and middle-income countries for cancer prevention and control, and is interested in developing an mHealth application to predict risk based on demographic and lifestyle risk factors. Her interests span nutrition, screening, environmental factors such as air pollution and pesticides, molecular/epigenetic epidemiology, cancer-related stigma and awareness, and the use of mHealth to remove barriers to cancer prevention and control.
