Video is an underutilized resource in behavior change communication and training largely due to lack of electricity and the assumption that it requires significant technical expertise. In this demonstration session, One Mobile Projector Per Trainer (OMPT), will exhibit simple video production equipment and battery-powered projectors that make it easy to use this tool anywhere, even locations without access to electricity.

The session will begin with an orientation to the equipment and ways that it is being applied in the development sector. Currently OMPT works with partners on WASH, agriculture, education, and health all over Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Central America. These projects produce locally created video shown on battery-powered projectors which support communication in refugee camps, schools, as well as in rural and urban communities.

After the orientation portion, attendees will have the opportunity to handle the equipment in a hands-on ICT playground. Attendees will learn how each item interfaces with one another including: shooting content on a simple camcorder, getting it onto a computer for editing, moving the content onto a projector, and charging the batteries of all the devices using alternative methods like solar panels or a motorcycle battery.

In addition to its equipment, OMPT provides its partners with video production training facilitated by instructors based in the country where the program will be executed. The content developed by OMPT’s partners is highly contextualized and guarantees consistent message delivery.

Evidence from OMPT’s recent partnership with Catholic Relief Services in Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, aimed at Ebola prevention, resulted in a 33% increase in attendance to community meetings. OMPT also partnered with Catholic Relief Services in Guatemala to deliver nutrition messaging leading to increased engagement among men on this topic that has generally been gender segregated.
