TEGA is a girl-operated mobile research approach currently live in Nigeria, Rwanda, Malawi, India and the US. It uses data-collection techniques and mobile technology to teach girls aged 18-24 how to collect meaningful, honest data about their world in the form of video, audio and photographs. TEGA provides Girl Effect and its partners with authentic peer-to-peer insights to inform their work, and equips girls with transferable skills they can use beyond their life as a TEGA. The TEGA app is easy to use and engages girls through gamification as well as borrowing features from Snapchat, Whatsapp and Spotify.

Join the team as they demonstrate the TEGA mobile research app and a bespoke Content Hub, which now houses stories from thousands of girls across the world. As well as allowing participants a hands-on demo to see digital data collection in action, we will answer questions about the realities of working with young female researchers in hard to reach communities. We will also discuss how we explain and gain informed consent when collecting audio and video recordings from research participants with low literacy levels.
