The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD) was launched in 2015 as a multi-stakeholder partnership aimed at supporting countries around the world harness the data revolution for sustainable development. With over 200 member organizations across sectors, we raise the profile of data on political agendas at multiple levels, foster multi-stakeholder collaboration, and improve data access and interoperability. As part of this effort, the GPSDD has been working in several countries around the world on a data roadmap effort to better understand alignment between the SDGs and national development priorities, key data, technology and capacity gaps, and how new sources of data (in the context of the data revolution) can be applied for action and decision-making, as well as reporting and monitoring requirements for the SDGs. Through a whole-of-government and multi-stakeholder approach, we advocate for data ecosystems inclusive of government, private sector and civil society as a means to fill data gaps, deliver impact and drive innovation. It is through this mechanism that country level (at both national and subnational levels) demand is better understood for which the GPSDD, through its network of partners, then wants to connect supply. This talk will provide an overview of this approach and what this means for developing a data ecosystem approach with examples from partner countries.
